When Wireless Broadband Meets VoIP
For a long time, wireless cell phones using broadband were the only solution to communicating on the go. But a few years ago, people developed a new way to communicate with their phones and its called VoIP, or voice over internet protocol. Many people may have already heard of Vonage, the company that pioneered the use of VoIP, but these same people may not know what it is and how it works. People also might be wondering why its a lot cheaper than traditional wireless plans.
VoIP is a new revolutionary way to make phone calls, sometimes for free. This new technology allows you to make phone calls through your computer and an internet connection. It uses IP addresses to connect you to whoever youre trying to call. But voIP isnt limited to just computer to computer phone calls. It can also make calls when someone is in reach of any wi-fi hotspot. All you need is a IP phone and a power supply. Of course, with every new technology, there will be up-sides and down-sides.
When you subscribe to a service like Vonage, they will only charge you around thirty dollars a month while other cell phone companies will charge around fifty. If you download VoIP software off the internet and use it to make long distance calls, it will cost you nothing in most cases and it takes around five minutes to set it up. Now, companies are developing ways to allow people to use voIP on popular smart phones such as the Motorola Q and the Samsung Blackjack. The reason its so cheap is that voIP costs about a two thirds less than wireless to maintain. Placing a call using VoIP will only cost a company like Vonage one third of the cost that Cingular or T-mobile has to pay. And now that people know how to convert wireless phones to IP phones using Motorola Q accessories or Samsung Blackjack Accessories, cell phone companies are starting to lose business to VoIP providers, but new technology always has certain important disadvantages.
For example, when you do not have a WI-FI signal, the phone will have no dial tone. Also, emergency calls to 911 will be a problem as well. These IP calls are untraceable so if you are unable to tell the 911 operator where you are, they wont be able to find you.
VoIP wont be a large threat to wireless companies for a decade or two because of these problems. They are not small either and it will take companies like Cingular more than a decade to switch to this cheaper technology. Stay with your expensive wireless company for now.

Sony Ericsson W580i Pink Joins The Sony W580i Walkman Range
Pink mobile phones were first introduced to the market around three years ago when the pioneering manufacturer Motorola launched its pink version of the Motorola RAZR V3 handset just before Christmas, other manufacturers then followed suit and this gave rise to a flood of new pink handsets.
The latest pink mobile phone release is the Sony Ericsson W580i, the fourth colour variant from the model range following on from the original Urban Grey, Style White, Boulevard Black the official name for the new colour scheme is Metro Pink.
It is usually around this time of year that retailers get a good idea of what is going to be on offer over the festive period with manufacturers and dealers slowly giving out press releases on new products and rumours flying around the mobile phone forums. This year is without doubt the year of different coloured phones, never before have there been so many colour schemes available.
The new Sony W580i Pink Edition fits into a niche of its own, there is only one other pink mobile phone featuring enhanced music software which is the Pink Samsung F210, however the W580i is part of the Walkman range of Sony Ericsson phones which means it offers the latest version of the Walkman music software.
The music software allows the user to easily upload new music files ot complete albums from a PC to the phone, entire CDs can be copied direct to the phones memory with a clever piece of software called Disc2Phone. Users can also download new music tracks direct from the mobile internet and then organise them into playlists to suit mood, genre or tempo, the W580i has 2GB of memory thanks to Memory Stick Duo which can hold up to 1600 songs which compares favourably with many stand alone MP3 players.
There is also an extra feature not found on the F210, TrackID is a service that recognises music tracks, if a user wanted to know more information about a piece of music they were listening to whilst out and about, they can simply record a couple of seconds of sound and the phone will send this to a recognition database which will in turn send back a message to the phone with the name of the artist and track, this can be very useful if in a nightclub, rather than barging through to ask the DJ which track they have on the user can find out almost instantly.
Staying with the music theme, there is also an FM radio for keeping up to date with the latest music releases, news, sports and local traffic and weather reports which also features RDS which will display information sent out by the station such as the artist and track name playing.
The Sony W580i features a 2.0 megapixel camera with support for video recording and playback, digital zoom for close up picture capture and a flash for low light conditions, this is a similar camera to the F210.
One feature that the W580i does have over the F210 is that of a suite of fitness and sports applications including a pedometer, particularly useful if you like to listen to music whilst you jog and want to keep a record of your progress.
The Sony Ericsson W580i Pink Edition offers a more feminine quality to the expanding range of Walkman phones which up until now have been very masculine looking, female mobile users also like to enjoy their music so it makes for a welcome addition to the range.
The Sony Ericsson W580i and Sony Ericsson W580i Pink are just two of many new Sony Ericsson mobile phones to be released this year. If you would like any further information please feel free to visit our mobile phones shop.

High Speed Internet - DSL Advantages & Disadvantages
High Speed Internet Advantages
DSL is just one of many ways to connect to the net. There are many advantages DSL has to offer other forms of Internet connection. One of the most obvious advantages is DSL offers a fast connection. Rather than wait hours for a document to download using dial up, with DSL you can download large files in just minutes. Here are some other advantages DSL has to offer high speed Internet fans:
DSL allows you to use an open Internet connection and use your telephone line for phone calls at the same time.
DSL speed is typically a lot faster than a traditional modem and doesn't require new wiring. In fact you can usually use the phone line you already have installed in your home to get DSL up and running.
Most companies provide you with a DSL modem during installation as part of the DSL package.
If you own your own business you'll be able to upload and download large files much faster using a DSL connection.
Disadvantages of DSL
Of course, there are disadvantages to anything as is the case with DSL. While most users consider these disadvantages minor they are nonetheless worthy of note:
The closer you are to the central office of the DSL provider the better your connection will work. Thus if you are located far away you may have more trouble connecting using your DSL line.
Typically connection speeds are faster when receiving information and data than when sending data using a DSL connection.
